MART Rovereto

LINGUAGGI 2004

In collaboration with the Festivaletteratura of Mantua and the Civic Library of Rovereto, Oriente Occidente dedicates a privileged space in the Language section to the research, art, culture, and reflections of some of their protagonists on the paths of multicultural dialogue, the challenges of encounters between 'us' and 'others', and the maps of contemporary society.

This year, from September 1st to 11th, writers such as the Iranian Abdolah Kader, whose status as an exile speaks volumes about the challenges of integration in contemporary societies and the issues of democratic development in Arab countries, and the English Karen Armstrong, who sees Jerusalem as a crucible of shared life among all Mediterranean peoples, will be guests at the Festival. Scholars like Franco Cardini, who has made significant contributions to the debate on relations between Christianity and Islam, Western and Middle Eastern cultures through a historical perspective, will also participate.

Oriente Occidente will also reserve two days for philosophical speculation, inviting two prominent Italian philosophers: Giulio Giorello, philosopher of science, will explain how ancient myths, particularly the Homeric Odyssey, continue to influence contemporary cultural narratives; Franco Rella will delve into the boundaries of words and images to unveil their ultimate meaning.

Completing the program of the section are interventions by some choreographers who are leading figures in the Dance section. Amelia Rudolph, artistic director of Project Bandaloop, and Elizabeth Streb, choreographer of the American group Streb, will discuss the fusion of dance and athleticism that characterizes their work. Shen Wei, founder of Shen Wei Dance Arts, will explore how traditional Eastern art and Western experimentation merge in his performances. Lastly, Louis-Philippe Demers and video artist Bill Vorn will provide their unique answer to the question "Can robots dance?"
