Artistic Residencies

Oriente Occidente Studio is a great space for artist residencies and each year we host artists and companies who come here to study and unleash their creative talents.

Oriente Occidente Studio is part of the broader Regional residency centre of Trentino Alto Adige/Südtirol, PASSO NORD together with Centrale Fies, Compagnia Abbondanza/Bertoni, Cooperativa Teatrale Prometeo and Teatro Cristallo.

Many artists have come and gone over the years, making the most of their artist residency experience and time at Oriente Occidente Studio to rehearse, study and work.

Some of them have been for a while or still are our Associate Artists.

How to apply for our residency programme

The opportunity to apply for our artistic residency programme 2024 is open until November 19th at 10 pm.

The projects will be evaluated by a commission composed as follows:

Lanfranco Cis, artistic director Oriente Occidente

Linda Dipietro, artistic director Base Milano

Pier Giacomo Cirella, General Secretary Fondazione Teatro Comunale Città di Vicenza

Peter Paul Kainrath, festival director Transart

The commission reserves the right to an online interview before the final selection.

The results of the selection will be communicated by December 20th.

The call for applications for artistic residencies at Oriente Occidente Studio is open to all artists and companies until midnight on 20 November 2022.

To be successful, in line with some of the key pillars of our mission, each project must:

  • Include research inputs and experiences that can create connections with the local environment, the focus being on cultivating relationships and a sense of community

  • Foster research and creation processes capable of growing the culture of diversity, inclusion and accessibility

We offer three residency programmes called Pitching, Sprouting, Blooming.

Artists and companies can apply for our Pitching and Sprouting programmes, while Blooming is a residential experience reserved to our associate artists.

The selected projects will also receive a financial award to be determined during the interview with the artistic direction.

Pitching

An artist residency consisting solely of a study experience, a time to stop and focus on the creative process.

There are no production requirements here or pressure to define the work in progress. “Openness” is the tagline for this residency programme, to be experienced as a time for experimenting without the urge to develop a full-fledged performance but rather to create the groundwork on which to build a new project.

To apply for this type of residency, send us your project by following the instructions in How to apply for our residency programmes.

Sprouting

This residency programme is more suited to projects already in the development phase, at that moment in time when you need to get your bearings and find the best way to translate ideas into movement or movement into ideas.

Open to all artists and companies, our widespread network of partnerships, combined with our professional expertise, will be able to support you in creating together a mentoring program suited to the needs of each project.

From artistic issues, strictly related to research in the fields of choreography and drama, to more technical and organisational needs, our goal here is to support a project in all its complexity and offer support and training to companies that need to find their feet organisation-wise too.

To apply for this type of residency, send us your project by following the instructions in How to apply for our residency programmes.

Blooming

When a project is close to its debut performance, this residency programme can be the springboard for leaping straight onto the stage.

We support artists and companies in addressing the needs that arise during the final stages of a project.

This residency programme is tailored to the specific needs of each project close to debut, from organisation to technical problems, with the added bonus of being able to use theatre spaces for part or all of the residency period.

This programme is reserved to our co-productions and our Associate Artists and is therefore not open to application.
