Sarah Blanc

Council Estate Princess, Sarah Blanc

Sarah Blanc (she/her) is a neurodivergent council estate princess from Ireland, now based in London. She is the Artistic Director of Moxie Brawl, a bold and inclusive dance theatre company known for making work in unexpected places. Their award-winning shows have been described as “gloriously shambolic,” “wholly absorbing,” and “the most fun you’ll have at a dance show.”

Sarah is also one third of Annie Vicky Sarah, a trio with Annie Hanauer and Vicky Malin that explores and challenges inclusive dance practices. As a freelance choreographer and movement director, she has worked with artists and companies including Bryony Kimmings, Complicité, Dan Daw Creative Projects, Candoco, and the Royal Opera House.

Council Estate Princess is a new solo dance theatre show about growing up protestant in a council estate in Ireland. It is about otherness, fitting in, victim complex & is jam packed full of contradictions. How can this princess ‘save’ herself and become the queen she always needed?

Through the languages of dance and theatre, the artist brings to the stage the complexity of her identity: a sense of otherness, the need to adapt, internalised victimhood, and the contradictions that have shaped her.

Developed as part of the Open Dialogo programme in collaboration with artist Elia Covolan, the piece weaves together biography and politics, body and social class, in a raw and ironic reflection on what it means to find—and reclaim—one’s place in the world.

Open Dialogo is a cultural exchange programme between Italy and the UK, curated by Stopgap Dance Company and supported by Arts Council England, the Directorate-General for Performing Arts of the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Italian Cultural Institute in London, and the British Council.
