L'ultima madre

Carla Rizzu, L'ultima madre | Deborah Lorenzi

Carla Rizzu explores in her new project titled L’ultima madre an archaic and legendary figure from her land: the accabadora, which in Sardinian and Catalan means “she who brings to an end.” This woman, filled with compassion, goes out in the dead of night to bid farewell to the elderly and the sick, providing comfort in response to their last words. The performance, entirely female for her company Nervitesi, encounters “an ancient Sardinia,” Rizzu explains, “but not too ancient, where things struggle to be clear, where the eyes of others are needles that judge and pierce the soul.”

CID Cantieri, the project of the International Dance Center of Rovereto aimed at promoting emerging Italian artists, offering them production residencies, financial support, and engagement with the public as part of Oriente Occidente, presents at the 2016 Festival four promising authors: the Friulian Tommaso Serratore, the Apulian Davide Valrosso, the Sicilian Salvo Lombardo, and the Sardinian Carla Rizzu.
