GRAMMENOS MASTROJENI

Grammenos Mastrojeni, Italian diploma

The planet is showing signs of collapse: no matter how much we choose to ignore it, science has no doubts. We are approaching points of no return, beyond which the ecosystem that sustains life cannot hold, and the collapse of each pillar of balance will trigger a chain reaction leading to the failure of others. These dynamics are already evident and scientifically verified. We cannot delude ourselves into thinking that the fate of humanity can be separated from that of the nature that nourishes us. Famines, conflicts, and mass migrations have already begun and will increasingly be driven by an unpredictable climate, on a planet facing what science is starting to call the "sixth mass extinction."

Grammenos Mastrojeni is an Italian diplomat who, since the early 1990s, has explored the relationship between environmental protection, human cohesion, peace, and security. His first monograph on the subject, Il ciclo indissolubile. Pace, ambiente, sviluppo e libertà, was published in 2002. He has taught conflict resolution and environmental studies at various universities, both in Italy and abroad. As Coordinator for Environment and Scientific Relations in Development Cooperation, he serves as the national focal point for combating land degradation, head of delegation at UN conferences on desertification, and a member of negotiation teams on climate, biodiversity, water, and other environmental issues addressed by the United Nations. He collaborates with the Climate Reality Project, an initiative launched by Nobel Laureate Al Gore to raise awareness of the risks associated with climate change.
