At MART next Sunday, April 24, at 11 AM, Japanese dancer/performer Mirai Moriyama will present the show Upload a New Mind to the Body.
Mirai Moriyama's performance is the first of three events organized and jointly produced by MART and the Oriente Occidente Festival. The eclectic Japanese artist, Cultural Ambassador from the Agency for Cultural Affairs, choreographs the spaces of the museum in Rovereto.
The show Upload a New Mind to the Body was conceived by Mirai Moriyama for the exhibition NewSensorium - Exciting Failure of Modernization, curated by Yuko Hasegawa and produced by ZKM, the Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany. The exhibition features 16 Asian artists exploring new sensory realms.
Reimagined for the spaces of MART, Moriyama's work is a performance about the body, about superstructures, and about new technologies. It investigates the values and constraints of contemporary life.
The choreographer wears a membrane that represents an existing operating system (OS). As it dries and stiffens, the membrane breaks and detaches due to the movements of the dance, as if a newly uploaded operating system were conflicting with the existing settings. The soundscape accompanying the performance deconstructs the performer's name into the syllables MO-RI-YA-MA-MI-RA-I.
