Landscape architecture is a relatively modern discipline. It traces its roots back to the 19th century and has developed rapidly, soon assuming - especially today - a prominent place in society, dealing with public spaces in urban and peri-urban projects, green spaces in cities, parks and gardens. Switzerland has always played an important role in the field of landscape architecture. Important projects by landscape architects from the Alpine state can be found in Switzerland as well as in the rest of the world. They combine attention to formal beauty and the environmental and ecological context with respect for the spirit of the place and its history. A richness and variety of approaches that is well summarised by this exhibition in which the visitor can discover the influence of the history of gardens, the role of the pioneers of Swiss landscape architecture, the crucial function of national and international exhibitions, as well as a review of the most significant landscape architecture studies and what has been produced by the new generations of architects.
