Inspired by the five elements of the IChing — earth, wood, water, metal, and fire — choreographer Yue Yin blends contemporary dance with traditional Chinese classical forms in a dynamic fusion.
A stage without wings, with fully visible side lights, opens up space for bodies in motion. Through powerful movement, they express the central duality of the piece: to rise, one must take root; to flow freely, one must harness the deep energy of the core; to explode, one must come together.
Yin is distinguished by a movement vocabulary that is uniquely his own, concrete yet floating, with a particularly strong element of the Chinese dance tradition and a purposeful sense of choreographic articulation.
