Maldonne

National Premiere

Sequins, tulle, animal prints. Evening dresses, nightgowns, wedding dresses. Clothes that are too big, too small, too tight or too loose. How many dresses can a woman wear? In Leïla Ka's first ensemble work, five dancers perform in 40 different dresses.

Fluttering, glittering, colourful fabrics both cover and reveal a performance that conveys the energy of a living, vibrant body. An evocative and liberating performance that shows the fragility, rebellion, contradictions, and multiple identities that a woman can have.

With this performance, Leïla Ka presents sisterhood in its most obvious form and pays due tribute to the struggles that have seen women as protagonists. A fitting tribute to the battles that have been fought and those that remain to be fought. An artistically and symbolically brilliant work.
