Olga Pona is a rare flower. Far from the global currents of contemporary dance, away from themes that may intrigue choreographers, she has always confronted her own world and tells it with her language. Often in Russia, originality is born in the deep provinces. In Chelyabinsk, for example, where Olga Pona's company is based, already in Asia, just across the Urals. There she founded her dance company together with Vladimir Pona: a group of 14 dancers. Thus, over the years, pieces have emerged that are often brief, do not fill an entire evening, but exhaust a theme without digressions.
Celestial Bodies, one of her most recent works, for eleven dancers, is quite a reflection on the choreographer's years of work, on how she has approached the theme of choreographic complexity and gestural language. Here we find the pleasure of putting the dancers' skills to the test in facing different challenges and dealing with multiple tasks, as can happen in today's Russian reality. The Russian theme is a constant in Pona's catalog.
