Bora / Il capo - film di Yuri Ancarani con musiche dal vivo di Mika Vainio

Two short films to discover a landscape inhabited only by wind and another only by men and machines. Bora will be soundtracked by Mika Vainio, with a live performance. A unique occasion for lovers of electronics and sound research because at the laptop, effects and instruments, there is one of the historical names in music of the last twenty years, former founder and part of the duo Pan Sonic.

Bora

Val Rosandra, on the border between Slovenia and Italy, is a stony landscape marked only by the passage of time. Now forgotten, that valley has only one true frequenter, the Bora, which strengthens in the gorge up to a hundred and twenty kilometres per hour. Yuri Ancarani described this hostile environment lashed by the wind in images, then asked an internationally renowned musician to confront his polished images live. ‘Bora would seem to be a video of landscapes only, but as in my other works, one can identify a main character who, from the beginning to the end of the video, lives in the centre of the frame. In this case the centre of the scene is the stage, the character is the musician who challenges the wind' (Yuri Ancarani).

Il Capo

Monte Bettogli, Carrara: in the marble quarries, men and machines excavate the mountain. The boss controls, coordinates and leads quarrymen and heavy vehicles using a language of gestures and signs alone. Directing his dangerous and sublime orchestra, overlooking the overhangs and peaks of the Apuane Alps, the boss acts in absolute noise, which becomes paradoxical silence. With close-ups, long shots, glances and gestures, Yuri Ancarani narrates with extraordinary effectiveness the landscape of the quarries, in which the relationship between man and the environment emerges in all its complexity.
