Peace and Democracy for Africa’s Development

Mario Raffaelli

Moderated by Marco Pontoni

If for years it was mistakenly thought that to strengthen the fragile African democratic institutions, political and economic interventions were sufficient, today a broader support is necessary.

Especially in light of the recent escalation of tensions between Somalia and Eritrea, Europe is called to assume a different role in the stabilization and peacebuilding process of the African continent, developing a broad and attentive perspective on all aspects that motivate its democratic development, both economically and culturally.

Mario Raffaelli, thanks to his many years of experience in Africa and his deep understanding of its issues, offers the public a comprehensive overview of international relations and the social and religious dynamics that increasingly highlight the need to reposition Africa at the center of the international political debate.

Mario Raffaelli, representative of the Italian Government for Somalia, has been a Member of Parliament and Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs for multiple legislatures. Before focusing on Somalia, he was an active peace mediator in Mozambique.
