The Revolution of Green Building. Homes, Neighborhoods, Cities Under the Sign of Eco-Compatibility.

Paolo Berdini

Paolo Berdini, member of the National Council of WWF.

What do we mean when we talk about bio-building? What are the advantages of eco-architecture? Is it true that it not only does not limit the comforts we are used to in our homes but also improves well-being and quality of life? How can new eco-compatible housing incorporate specific measures to reduce pollution and consumption/expenses without compromising the comforts we are accustomed to? And above all, is it true that the very model of development of our cities and neighborhoods should be rethought more comprehensively today, as they are too often victims of illegal building, urban decay, and the absence of a serious zoning plan capable of interpreting the buen vivir in protection and respect for citizens?

An urban planner, he graduated in civil engineering from the University of Rome La Sapienza. He provides design and consultancy services for public administrations in urban planning. Since 2009, he has been a member of the National Council of WWF. He served as Secretary General of the National Institute of Urban Planning from 1990 to 1992. In 1993, he was among the founding members of the cultural association Polis. He is the author of municipal urban plans, both general and detailed, and in 2009 he completed the preparation of the Management Plan for the Regional Park of the Castelli Romani. His latest book is L’Italia fai da te. Storia dell’abusivismo edilizio in Italia (Donzelli Editore, in bookstores in September 2010). He has also published La città in vendita, centri storici e mercato senza regole (Donzelli Editore, 2008) and Il Giubileo senza città (Editori Riuniti, 2000). He collaborates with the newspaper Il Manifesto.
