The meeting is moderated by Katja Casagranda.
Elisa Guzzo Vaccarino's latest book is dedicated to contemporary theatrical dance as a fully-fledged discipline, autonomous in its purpose, an art of the mind and body. In an Italian landscape usually focused on modern dance and its pioneers, on the dance theater of Pina Bausch, on the expressive universe of Carolyn Carlson, and lately on performance art, “dance-dance,” or “pure dance,” has not been very present in our bookstores. Therefore, the art of dance aims to fill this gap by addressing three giants of the 20th century: George Balanchine, Merce Cunningham, and William Forsythe. The art of dance seeks to be a guide to discovering, observing, understanding, and finding one's personal path to the beauty and intelligence of an exhilarating creative thought that involves the entire person: those who design the dance, those who embody it, and those who enjoy it.
