The Mediterranean of ghosts and whispers. The Armenian genocide

Varujan Vosganian

Varujan Vosganian, president of the Union of Armenians of Romania.

Introducing the meeting with Roberto Keller from Keller Editore, featuring Anita N. Bernacchia, translator of The Book of Whispers by Varujan Vosganian.

There are only a few years left until 2015, which will mark a century since the massacre of the Armenian people, deported to the Death Circles in the Deir-ez-Zor desert. A hundred years is a long time, especially considering that in the meantime, two world wars have erupted, the totalitarian empires of ideologies have risen and fallen, and new supranational formations have emerged. The very birth of Europe and the feared entry of Turkey into the European Union have dramatically highlighted the unresolved issue of the Armenian genocide. Amid international pressures and Turkish resistance, a crucial game is being played for the Mediterranean, while culture is also witnessing the emergence of works that pierce the veil of silence cast over this great tragedy. Among the most interesting and important works of recent years is Varujan Vosganian's The Book of Whispers, which, in a grand literary work, tells us about the tragedy of the Armenian people and the distortions of the 20th century.

In collaboration with Keller Editore.

Varujan Vosganian was born in Craiova, in southern Romania, on July 25, 1958. He spent his childhood and adolescence in Focşani, in the Moldova region.
