The meeting will be moderated by Paolo Mantovan.
Immigration is one of the major themes of recent years. In various ways, it has shaped the history of our country, which, willingly or unwillingly, is a geographical extension of Europe where people arrive. Phobias, pushes for integration, and dramas—great dramas—have alternated, creating a feeling suspended between hospitality and fear, all exacerbated by a lack of information and the anxiety gripping the population in this incomprehensible present. Yet, what is summarily defined as immigration is a complex web of realities, themes, and stories. To understand this, we can think of it like a funnel, where it is easy to focus on the flow exiting the narrow end, forgetting what enters from the opposite side. Among immigrants, we find those fleeing poverty, those escaping conflicts, those aspiring to a better future, but also those who exploit these dramas and much more... And despite the silences or vague statements of intent, now more than ever, real action and shared reflection on this phenomenon are needed to find suitable answers. Speaking about it at Linguaggi is the honorable Cécile Kyenge, who has been and continues to be one of the most authoritative political voices on the subject.
