And Susanna Doesn't Come. Love and Sex in Mozart

LEONETTA BENTIVOGLIO, LIDIA BRAMANI E MARVI ZANONI

Leonetta Bentivoglio, essayist and journalist; Lidia Bramani, musicologist and writer; and Marvi Zanoni, artistic director of AMI (Associazione Mozart Italia) and Mozart Boys&Girls.

Mozart is an inexhaustible and hypnotic treasure trove: the exhilarating risk is that one might never escape it. Can 18th-century masterpieces shed light on the present, outlining a map of emotions and eros still relevant today? Through the trilogy of operas created with librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart has proven that they can. In the miraculous body of work consisting of The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, and Così fan tutte, the composer prophetically explored every aspect of love. The authors delve into this perfect tripartite musical mechanism with scientific rigor and a light, sharp prose. The result is a universe that speaks to heterosexuals and homosexuals alike, to those who have achieved non-obligatory monogamous ecstasy, to polyamorous individuals battling hypocrisy, and to clandestine lovers resistant to the mystique of transparency.

Event organized in collaboration with AMI Associazione Mozart Italia.
