Marco Belpoliti
Marco Belpoliti was born in Reggio Emilia in 1954. He is an essayist, writer, and professor in the Department of Education and Communication Sciences at the University of Bergamo.
His research interests are focused on contemporary Italian literature. He edited the works of Primo Levi for Einaudi (Opere, Einaudi 1997), a volume of interviews (Primo Levi. Interviste e conversazioni 1963-1987, Einaudi 1997), and published an essay on Italo Calvino (L'occhio di Calvino, Einaudi 1996), dedicated to the relationship between art and literature in Calvino, as well as a study on the Italian writers of the 1970s (Settanta, Einaudi 2001). He also has interests in comparative literature of the 20th century (Gombrowicz, Nabokov, Perec, etc.).
He edits "Riga" (Marcos y Marcos), a magazine that covers art, literature, science, philosophy, epistemology, etc., where he has published monographic volumes dedicated to Alberto Giacometti, Italo Calvino, Alberto Arbasino, Primo Levi, and the theme of Nodes. He has a particular interest in visual perception, contemporary art, and color.
He is active in journalism for newspapers and weeklies: "La Stampa", where he collaborates on cultural pages and serves as an opinion columnist; "L'Espresso", where he manages a weekly column of literary reviews, and the supplement "Alias" of the daily "il Manifesto", where he writes a bi-weekly column dedicated to book covers published in Italy.
