Running for Peace in the Desert

MAX CALDERAN

Max Calderan, holder of 11 world records, mental coach, and sports trainer.

Max Calderan is a familiar name in the Arabian Peninsula. A holder of 11 world records, mental coach, and sports trainer, he challenges himself by running solo across the most inhospitable deserts, achieving incredible and scientifically inexplicable milestones. Al Jazeera dedicated a special documentary to him, broadcast worldwide, officially proclaiming him as the "Son of the Desert" for his feats against the presumed limits of human physiology in regions where even Bedouins and shepherds pause their activities due to extreme heat. A deep connoisseur of Middle Eastern culture and its geopolitical, historical, cultural, and religious aspects, he builds solid bridges of mutual understanding through his endeavors, connecting seemingly different worlds.

Event organized in collaboration with Monturaedition.

Max Calderan was born in Portogruaro, Italy, in 1967. He embarked on a multifaceted athletic career at a young age, and since 1989, as a sports trainer and mental coach, he has trained hundreds of athletes to achieve their sporting goals. He also holds managerial roles at major pharmaceutical companies, deepening his research in two areas that have always fascinated him: sleep deprivation and the defense mechanisms that regulate the emotion of fear.
In 2006, he became the first person in the world to run across the Qatar desert. In 2009, as a gesture of peace, he ran from Ramallah to Jerusalem and on to Gaza; this endeavor, halted by an Israeli checkpoint, was documented in a sacred book kept at the Monastery of Saint Catherine at the foot of Sinai. In 2015, he was appointed by the United Nations as an ambassador for the Conservation of Asiatic Cheetah Project.
