Going to Hell

Duccio Canestrini

Duccio Canestrini, author of books.

In his conference-performance, Duccio Canestrini revisits the history of travel and exploration through images, music, and video clips, leading to the tourist scenarios that are presented today and for the future. This includes the virtual and hyper-technological experiences of so-called "augmented reality." It is true that almost everyone has traveled to nearly every corner of the globe, but how did they get there? With curiosity and openness to the unexpected, or as good consumers of destinations? Given that the perfect traveler does not exist, and if they did, they would be unpleasant, it is important to reflect on the possibility of making the most of travel and leisure time for personal growth, to enjoy encounters, and to appreciate the diversity of cultures.

Anthropologist, journalist, and university lecturer, Duccio Canestrini is the author of books (published by Rizzoli, Feltrinelli, Bollati Boringhieri) and scripts for television, radio, and theater. He has been studying the dynamics of the relationship between humans and the environment, the symbolism of the human body, and the processes related to intercultural encounters for many years. In the field of tourism anthropology, he is known for introducing the concept of Homo turisticus
