Other Bodies, New Dances

Andrea Porcheddu

Andrea Porcheddu, theater critic and scholar | ph Angela Onorati

A multi-voiced book aimed at initiating a reflection in Italy on the new expressions of contemporary dance: diverse bodies, extraordinary physicality, disability, and the new possibilities it can offer to artistic creation. Published by Cue Press and curated by critic Andrea Porcheddu, the volume includes the reflections of scholars, critics, and practitioners, while also opening up to the considerations of anthropologists, philosophers, and educators. It features direct testimonies and interviews with Italian and international dancers and choreographers. Enriched by an iconographic framework and a reasoned theater bibliography, the book provides a perspective on the possible frontiers of contemporary dance.

Andrea Porcheddu, a theater critic and scholar, has been going to the theater since 1988, nearly every evening. He collaborates with glistatigenerali.com, L’Espresso, Radio3Rai, Chefare.com, and other national and international publications. He has met many artists to whom he has dedicated books and essays. He teaches courses at the University La Sapienza in Rome and conducts criticism workshops. He has focused on critical theories applied to the stage with Questo fantasma, il critico a teatro (Titivillus editore) and curates the Guide Teatrali series for Cue Press, with which he published the book Che c’è da guardare? La critica di fronte al teatro sociale d’arte (2017).
