To the rhythm of conveyor belts and huge machines, the documentary by Geyrhalter - one of the most accomplished contemporary documentary filmmakers - explores Europe's food production sites without comment: monumental spaces, surreal landscapes and bizarre sounds, a cold industrial environment that leaves little room for the individual. Said the director: ‘I am fascinated by places that people don't normally know about. Food production takes place in a closed system, of which people only have a very vague idea. There is a kind of reluctance to show these places and the work that goes on there, but it is necessary to do so'.
