Terre al margine

Meeting with Francesca Melandri

terre-al-margine

The mountains of a tormented Alto Adige, the wild sea of a Mediterranean island: two borderlands that meet the lives of human beings. The two novels that revealed Francesca Melandri as one of the most interesting authors of recent years are linked by the common thread of a strong bond between the protagonists of the events narrated and the surrounding landscape. Places where an overbearing nature overwhelms the aspirations and pains of communities and individuals looking for a place in the world. In Eva dorme and Più alto del mare the Roman writer talks about lands and therefore experiences on the margin - a good place, perhaps, to investigate the center of things.

Born in Rome in 1964, Francesca Melandri in over twenty years of career has written the screenplays of films and successful TV series such as Fantaghirò and Don Matteo. He directed the documentaries Nel paese delle case di Lana (1993) and Vera (2010). In fiction he made his debut with Eva dorme, Mondadori 2010, a journey through the history of South Tyrol which won numerous awards and was translated into various languages and in France for Gallimard. The same prestigious publisher is preparing to translate into French also Più alto del mare, Rizzoli 2012 of which the German edition Über Meereshöhe has just been released, Blessing Verlag 2012 and which won the 2012 Rapallo Carige Award, the Isola d'Elba-Raffaello Brignetti Award and the 2012 Campiello Selection Award.
