After two major documentaries dedicated to Joy Division and Radiohead, British film-maker Grant Gee chose to narrate the world of German writer Winfried Georg Sebald, who died prematurely a decade ago. The result is an essay in images that retraces, twenty years later, the places narrated by Sebald in one of his best-known works, The Rings of Saturn. A flow of images that are difficult to catalogue, just as the German intellectual's books are: essays, non-fiction novels, digressions between travel literature and autobiography. Halfway between documentary and video art, Patience (After Sebald) seems to be made of the same stuff that certain obsessions are made of. A fascinating journey in which, as is fitting, the path counts more than the goal to be reached.
