If information is the story of reality and facts, what is disinformation? Why do these two antithetical terms increasingly appear next to each other today, almost as if they were synonyms? Can the reader, listener or viewer be able to distinguish them, to evaluate the truthfulness and reliability of the news offered to them by the media, the internet and the press? And is there a difference between judicial news, sports, advertising, entertainment and politics or are they one and the same thing? These are the aspects of contemporary information addressed by Curzio Maltese in a stimulating meeting with Enrico Franco, director of Corriere del Trentino. Born in Milan and raised in Sesto San Giovanni, the former Stalingrad of Italy, Maltese, after a period between factories and free radio stations, including Radio Popolare, dedicated himself to journalism, covering sports and news for the dailies La Notte and La Gazzetta dello Sport. He was a correspondent for La Stampa and since 1995 he has been a columnist for La Repubblica. Author for Corrado and Sabina Guzzanti, he has also churned out numerous books with prestigious Italian publishers. The most recent is La bolla. La pericolo fine del sogno berlusconiano for Feltrinelli.
