The overview of French "nouvelle danse" offered this year by the Rovereto Festival aims to bring together some of the newest faces of this phenomenon, daring to present a series of names largely unknown to the Italian public, often representing the "second generation" compared to the first wave of choreographic experimentation that emerged in France in the late 1970s (the leading figures of which were presented in a dedicated edition of the Festival three years ago).
The selection has focused more on differences than similarities, attempting to demonstrate the stimulating heterogeneity of this trend and the variety of stylistic influences it has undergone.
Jean Gaudin, a choreographer already known to the Italian public, is an eccentric performer. His dance "tells" stories through delirium and demystification, mixing violence and comedy, dark ecstasy and nervous gags, painful emotions and irreverent humor.
