Hunger, emigration, the abandonment of the mountains and the advent of a new world: a great fresco of stories, an intense document that starts from the original testimonies of farmers and mountain dwellers from the Cuneo valleys collected by Nuto Revelli in his books Il Mondo dei vinti, Einaudi, 1977 and L'anello forte, Einaudi 1985 and then intertwines with those of their descendants, contemporary men and women still citizens of those transformed lands. “The attempt – say Fenoglio and Mometti – was to narrate the stories told by the old and new witnesses in a poetic and cinematic way”. These voices coming from different times mix with images of the Cuneo landscape: a territory made of remains, scars, relics that visualize the distances and correlations between peasant civilization and the post-industrial present. A work awarded at the Torino Film Festival, at the Ucca-Venti Città Award and at the 59th Trento Film Festival.
