The landscape never stands alone, it always emerges from a relationship. The genesis of the idea of landscape in human history can be explored starting from the Holy Scripture, through the Divine Comedy, up to the work of Francesco Petrarca in which a new and unprecedented way of thinking about the relationship between man and nature is affirmed. The great Arezzo man of letters seems to open up a new path in Italian literature, and not only that, with the definition of a certain concept of landscape, with his annotations and descriptions, with the discovery of a true nature. And it all happens at the end of an extraordinary literary season - incomprehensible without the idea of the sacred - which was based on a geography of symbols and allegories.

Ugo Dotti was a professor of Italian literature at the University of Perugia, he worked on Italian literature in the modern age. Among his publications: Petrarca civile.
