After Merce Cunningham last year, in 2006 the choice fell on Philip Glass, one of the undisputed protagonists of the international music scene of the last forty years, the one who more than anyone else has been able to intertwine his creative paths with those of extraordinary innovators such as Steve Reich, David Bowie, Brian Eno and Ravi Shankar in music, Robert Wilson and Samuel Beckett in theater, Lucinda Childs and Molissa Fenley in dance, Allen Ginsberg and Patti Smith in poetry, Godfrey Reggio, Martin Scorsese, Paul Schrader and Stephen Daldry in cinema, Richard Serra, Sol LeWitt, Laurie Anderson and Chuck Close in the visual arts. This is a complete portrait of the famous American composer, through a Solo Piano, a tribute to Allen Ginsberg in a duet with Patti Smith, the new choreographies created by Molissa Fenley on his music performed together with Giovanni Sollima, the live re-proposal with the Philip Glass Ensemble of the music from the film Koyaanisqatsi by Godfrey Reggio,
and finally the performance of the marathon composition Music in Twelve Parts. The program is completed by a photographic exhibition by Patti Smith, a review of the most significant films set to music by Glass, meetings, video documentaries and sound paths in the creative spirit of the Maestro.
