Stopgap Dance Company

The very name of the Stopgap Dance Company, the British company directed by Lucy Bennett, reveals its goals: no differences and no divisions,. By integrating disabled and non-disabled artists, Stopgap engages in productions in which interdependence, human strength and vulnerability are interweaved with poetic realism. This inclusive choreography is expressed by dancers who have been working together for over a decade, joined by a younger generation, in order to overcome the concept of repertoire company and constantly take on new artistic challenges for the stage and for outdoor spaces. Lucy Bennet explains that “working together through integrated dance means discovering a new dance vocabulary. We use our different bodies, experiences and learning styles to find alternative ways of expression and movement, while being aware that difference is our means and our method.
