The other in dialogue

A place, a space, a time to explore the folds of the contemporary world, to look at and give meaning to borders, to become frontier men open to encounter and cultural exchange. A contribution from the International Meetings of Rovereto to discover and deepen what characterizes, divides, and unites the many cultures of the world. To better read the connections between East and West and between North and South, the perspectives of others, the maps of contemporary reality.

Between welcome and rejection, between empathy and hostility. Dialogue with the Other is based on the relationship between two analogous yet divergent perspectives: the search for one's own identity through the identity of the other.

It remains an ongoing challenge, one that Western society struggles to view in a positive light, compelled to emphasize only the risks and negative consequences due to fear and the inability to see through eyes different from its own. Yet the urgency for a radical shift in perspective has not diminished. Just as the need to conceive and foster a thought capable of building bridges to dimensions different from oneself, overcoming distances and barriers, resolving conflicts even under difficult conditions, defeating fanaticism, managing resentment, and emerging from chronic states of war remains unmet. The challenge remains, therefore, to understand dialogue as enrichment, to make it a way of life, starting with the preliminary clarification of key concepts, essential not only for a broad audience but also for specialists.

These premises suggest the idea of seizing the opportunity of the series of meetings The Other in Dialogue, organized by the Reset DoC – Dialogues on Civilizations Association, as an intercultural project to examine, together with renowned experts, the relationship between different entities and some crucial areas for our understanding of the Other. From Women and Family to the City, from Writing to Television, from Spirituality to Conflict, traversing one of the West's greatest enigmas: China.
