Butterfly Effect

Grammenos Mastrojeni

Grammenos Mastrojeni, diplomat, professor, and writer| ph Sarah Melchiori

The idea of a constructive cycle between human well-being and that of the planet—integral ecology—is beginning to be applied by politics in major international agreements. Now it must become part of our lives, of our daily routines, because without each of us, everything is lost. The ecosystem does not respond to treaties, laws, or interest rates; it responds to the concrete behaviors of each one of us. We, ordinary people, are the solution. And if we decide to commit ourselves, we have everything to gain.

Grammenos Mastrojeni is a diplomat, professor, and writer. Since the early 1990s, he has conducted research on the then misunderstood connection between environmental protection, development, and peace. He is the Environment Coordinator for Development Cooperation, the national focal point for the fight against land degradation, the chief negotiator for land and water, and a member of negotiating teams on climate, biodiversity, and oceans. He is the president of the Global Mountain and Island Alliances and collaborates with the Climate Reality Project, launched by Nobel Laureate Al Gore.
