Oriente Occidente Studio

Elita Cannata

Developed by Anouk van Dijk, the Countertechnique® movement system prepares the body to move more fluidly and in a constant relationship with space and those who inhabit it. The key element of this technique is the continuous use of directions and counterdirections in all movements, while priority always lies in the body enjoying experimenting with different ways of the same movement rather than rational and intellectual understanding.

The workshop includes a warm-up phase and a section in which the instruments and principles of the technique are investigated in more depth by improvisation and guided exploration, with a special focus on the practice of shifting attention, i.e. the ability to consciously shift one's attention from one thing to another while dancing.

The workshop is part of the KNOWLEDGE section. The project is supported by Embassy and Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Dance in 2007 at Rotterdam Dance Academy/Codarts in the Netherlands, she obtained her Master's degree in Theories of Performing Arts at the University of Bologna in 2011.

She has been studying Countertechnique® since 2005 and performed for anoukvandijk dc as a dancer in 2007 and 2008. She attended her first Countertechnique® Teacher Training (CTTT) in 2014 and, with the support of the Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst, participated in her second training and progressed to Senior Teacher in 2018.

Since 2021, together with Anouk van Dijk, she has been part of the CTTT teaching staff for future generations of Countertechnique® teachers.

The workshop is designed for dancers at an intermediate/advanced level.
