MART Sala Conferenze

with PINA BAUSCH

JO ANN ENDICOTT

A conversation between Leonetta Bentivoglio and the author of the book, a former member of the Tanztheater Wuppertal

Jo Ann Endicott, a dancer, and Leonetta Bentivoglio.

Jo Ann Endicott was a young Australian dancer with exceptional technique and power when Pina Bausch, the leading figure of Tanztheater, met her in London and recognized her charisma and talent. In this passionate and tumultuous "logbook," written after Pina's death in 2009, the author recounts, in a crescendo of emotions, how Pina's strong personality became, in fact, the supreme architect of her entire destiny, both on stage and in life. It is a profound act of love for the creative genius of Pina.

Jo Ann Endicott, born in Sydney, Australia, was Pina Bausch's most emblematic dancer. She met Bausch in 1973 and became a dancer with the Tanztheater Wuppertal. In 1976, she played the lead role of Anna in the choreography Die sieben Todsünden (The Seven Deadly Sins). This was followed by other lead roles in Komm tanz mit mir (1977), Kontakthof (1978), Arien (1979), and Two cigarettes in the dark (1985). She was part of the Tanztheater Wuppertal for over 35 years, also serving as Pina's assistant and trainer. Recently, she has embarked on a writing career.
