Urban Regeneration Project

The Urban Regeneration project was created to address social fragilities through art and beauty. Thanks to the collaboration between cultural organizations, social cooperatives, local institutions, and private partners, the project transforms a marginalized place into a safe and welcoming space, where culture becomes a tool for active participation.

The Urban Center of Rovereto, located on the ground floor of Palazzo Kennedy, overlooks the Ex-Chesani Gallery, a pedestrian passage connecting the main street to the historic center. This area is often frequented by people living in conditions of vulnerability and social fragility. The project aims to transform the Urban Center into a place of participation for communities, capable of valuing diversity and promoting the protagonism of those who are often unheard.

The goal is to create a replicable cultural welfare model that fosters community well-being and strengthens a sense of belonging. To improve accessibility and usability, redevelopment interventions will be carried out, including new furnishings, enhanced lighting, and technological equipment for events and artistic activities.

Art as a tool for regeneration

Urban Regeneration uses artistic practices as a means to give a voice to the most vulnerable communities and to mend the social fabric. Art becomes a catalyst for relationships, fostering intergenerational and intercultural dialogue, active participation, and the appreciation of diversity. The project focuses on three main groups:

  • Gen Z (ages 14–23), by offering safe and stimulating spaces for gathering and creative experimentation;

  • People over 70, with activities aimed at combating isolation and promoting active aging;

  • New citizens, by facilitating intercultural dialogue and the construction of a shared sense of belonging.

Planned activities include weekly workshops in performing and visual arts, training programs for cultural and social workers, artistic events open to the wider community, and moments of co-creation with participants, in order to collectively build a program that responds to the real needs of the community. The objective is to transform the Urban Center into a point of reference for personal and collective expression, capable of preventing marginalization and stimulating processes of self-determination and shared growth.

The value of the network

Urban Regeneration is a three-year project that falls within the Welfare a KM Zero call, promoted jointly by Fondazione Caritro and the Provincia Autonoma di Trento together with the Council of Local Authorities and Fondazione Franco Demarchi. It is carried out by us in collaboration with OHT (Office for a Human Theatre), which develops interdisciplinary projects in the field of contemporary arts, ATAS, which promotes welcoming practices and intercultural coexistence; and Gruppo78, which is committed to the health and well-being of people in situations of disadvantage. The project is also supported by the Comune di Rovereto and the Comunità della Vallagarina, which contribute to the development of cultural and social activities, and by the partner Maffei Service.
