CO-PRODUCTION ORIENTE OCCIDENTE
For the second time as a guest at Oriente Occidente, the Milanese collective Piratejenny has been selected within the framework of CID Cantieri 2018. The project, born five years ago within CID, aims to support and promote young Italian artists, guaranteeing selected individuals productive assistance through residencies in their spaces and the presentation of works created within the context of the Festival. Piratejenny has thus conceived, partly in Rovereto, the new .Leaders/Kids, a work that continues the artistic vision of the collective founded by Sara Catellani, Elisa Ferrari, and Davide Manico in 2011, focusing on the investigation of contemporary society and the decision-making dynamics activated within the community. Their performances actively engage the audience, making them participants. The brand new .Leaders/Kids, aimed at very young viewers, does just that. As confirmed by the subtitle, Interactive Stage Device for Young Spectators, it is a multiplayer game that divides the audience into teams and involves them in managing the action. In the same space and location as the performers, guided by a voiceover—a sort of deus ex machina—teams will have the opportunity to alter the course of the performance using consoles arranged around the perimeter of the play area, allowing theatrical and choreographic elements to emerge.
The young audience, through a battle between teams, will be able to reveal a hidden world of actions, texts, dances, sounds, and luminous settings that characterize the three different natures of the Characters unveiled by the choreographic score. Without referencing a specific fairy tale or story, the performance moves beyond traditional narrative mechanisms, providing the audience the opportunity to create their own interpretation at each performance. An improvised decision-making and creative process promotes collaboration in decision-making within the team.
