Film - The Pervert's Guide to Cinema

Film - 150'

Cinema as seen by Slavoj Žižek – one of the greatest contemporary philosophers – is not a form of mass entertainment, but an art that confronts us with the most hidden, repressed and denied impulses: “Cinema is the perverse art form par excellence: it doesn’t give you what you desire, it teaches you to desire”. A radical intellectual and brilliant lecturer, Žižek is also a devilish cinephile. This hilarious three-part documentary is a sort of essay in the form of a film, in which the irrepressible Slovenian philosopher leads the viewer on a (psycho)analytic tour de force through the history of cinema, literally delving into the scenes of films that have made history and tackling, with a multifaceted and always surprising approach, classic authors such as Hitchcock, Bergman, Chaplin, the Marx Brothers and recent films such as Matrix or Lost Highway. A sharp reflection on the functional nature of cinema and the mirroring mechanisms that allow the spectator's anxieties and desires to more or less comfortably inhabit the screen.
