Bali: il sogno che danza

Two Italian actors, Enrico Masseroli and Maria Teresa Buttarelli, who have been studying with Djimat for several years, want to offer testimony of their research with the master. The island's most significant dances are accompanied by music and original images of his social life (slides) that serve as a backdrop to the short introductory text.

For some time now, the evolution of the contemporary scene has shown an intimate need for confrontation with the vast and astonishing tradition of Eastern theatres. The Bali Theatre is a unique and grandiose example of an ancient and yet very much alive tradition. Its ‘discovery’ was consecrated by the prophetic insights of Antonin Artaud, the great visionary of European theatre. I Made Djimat is unanimously recognised as the most prestigious custodian-interpreter of Balinese theatre. Descendant of a family of artists, he began dancing at the age of 5, a child prodigy, in the island's ceremonies. Among his teachers was the famous I Made Mario.

In recent years, he has made Balinese dance known throughout the world, appearing as a soloist on numerous tours in America, Japan, Australia and Europe.
