Teatro Zandonai

Atlante dei misteri dolorosi

The Teatro della Valdoca was founded in Cesena in 1978. Its first show was ‘Le 14 giornate di Masaniello’ directed by Peter Schuman (1978). This was followed by ‘Tre storie brevi’ (1979); ‘Tavole sinottiche’ (1981) produced for the Biennale Teatro di Venezia; ‘Lo spazio della quiete’ (1983); ‘Rebus’ a spectacular event realised for the 1984 Santarcangelo Festival; ‘Le radici dell'amore’ (1984); ‘Atlante dei misteri dolorosi’ (1985). The director of all the shows was Cesare Ronconi.

La Valdoca represents a rather anomalous point in the panorama of contemporary artistic research. ‘In his shows’, writes Oliviero Ponte di Pino, ’one can find a great tension of the body towards the matter, dramatic and unquenchable, projected in the spaces of the stage where the lesson of a figurative inheritance is charged with an emotional adhesion and with meticulous modesty the flow of images restores poses stolen from the history of painting: abstracted from the world that surrounded them and recomposed in the curious superimposition of a primitive fragrance and of encounters and clashes of forces and potential chemical transubstantiations. Pose after pose, in the effort to adhere to an image of calibrated power, the flesh seems to become now as hard as stone, now as soft as clay, now as fragile as reeds dried out by the wind and the sun, rediscovering the consistency of the substances with which it comes into contact. Matter reveals itself as possible salvation and inevitable condemnation'.

The Teatro della Valdoca presents in Rovereto for the first time its last three works ‘Lo spazio della quiete’, ‘Le radici dell'amore’ and ‘Atlante dei misteri dolorosi’ as a single show.
