Workshop on tarantismo

The masters of Italian music of the Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino propose a fun and engaging workshop on the Pizzica, to discover the ancient rites of "Tarantismo". According to the popular tradition of the southern part of the Italian region Apulia, the pizzica, heals the tarantola spider bite thanks to its frenetic trance dance.
Ever since she was a child, she has been fascinated by dance and particularly interested in traditional dances. She learned the pizzica taking part in “ronde” of Salento musicians and dancers but she enriched the tradition with her own style. Since 2008, she has been an important part of the Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino. She was a soloist dancer at the Notte della Taranta from 2010 to 2013, selected by Ludovico Einaudi, Goran Bregovic and Giovanni Sollima.
In the Canzoniere since the age of 14, he became its leader in 2007. He succeeded his father Daniele, honouring the tradition of passing this kind of knowledge and experiences from generation to generation. He was only 25 years old when the concertmaster Ludovico Einaudi wanted him as an assistant for the 2010 and 2011 editions of the Notte della Taranta. And in 2012 he was also Goran Bregovic's musical assistant.
The workshop is intended for intermediate level dancers and performers.
