WORKSHOP REPERTORY JOHAN INGER
«The most important thing in dance is to find freedom within the limitation of technique.»
- Johan Inger –
The workshop will be daily organized in two different parts. During the first one and a half hour there will be a training in classical ballet. During the second one the participants will be introduced to Johan Inger’s repertoire.
Johan Inger is a prestigious choreographer, based in the Netherlands who creates both modern and classical dance pieces for some of the most famous companies around the World. For him, technique is very important, but communication is vital. You have to learn the rules and then to let them go and to rely purely on dance. Creativity does not concern just the choreographer; even the dancer has to find it inside his or her movement.
In the whorkshop Carolina Armenta will be teaching different excerpts, dance material from Inger’s last work IMPASSE. The piece was made for the dance company Netherlands Dance Theater 2 last February 2020.
IMPASSE
illuminates that the baseline of human behavior is rooted in peer pressure and a loss of self, determined by a seduction of unending streams of “newness". It problematizes the ease with which we seem to fall into what others say or do and how we lose the opportunity for fruitful growth in the process. Can we nurture the ability to seriously interrogate the world together, and find the capacity to reimagine it?
Who does it interest?
Professional dancers and vocational dance students. The workshop will be held in English.
Carolina Armenta
Carolina Armenta graduated from the Royal School of Dramatic Art and Dance of Madrid in 1988 and in 2012 she obtained the Higher Degree in Dance with the focus on Choreography and Dance Interpretations Techniques. She began her professional career in the Netherlands Dans Theater Junior in Holland and then joined the main cast under the direction of Jiri Kylian, performing for 13 years choreographies from Jiri Kylian, Nacho Duato, Mats Ek, William Forsythe, Paul Lightfoot, Ohad Naharin, Johan Inger, Hans Van Manen among others.
Between 2004 and 2008 she worked as a dancer in the “Cullberg Ballet “ in Stockholm and also as assistant and rehearsal director of the choreographer Johan Inger, with whom she continues to collaborate. She has been working as a teacher in the Royal Swedish School of Sweden and later at the Centro Andaluz de Danza in Sevilla for the last 10 years.
