Urgence et movement - I said Africa not Tradition

During the last years, Faso Danse Theatre focused on the development of a dance technique that stems from three keywords: urgency, need, vitality. From these three words a dance vocabulary was created, one with a complex composition based on the oppositions in movement, on fragility, on internal violence and on speed of thought. Participants will look for what – in their opinion – is urgent to express today, and they will work on how to express it with their body in the space. In this workshop the individual and will be explored as concepts. Also, some bits of Kalakuta Republik’s choreography will be shared.
The workshop is based on the dance technique developed during the 90s by Serge Aimé Coulibaly, who starts from a contemporary African gesture and opens up to other forms of dance. He creates a dance of African roots, but without rigid definitions or barriers; the priority is the expression of the body through vitality, elegance, beauty and emotion. It will be a work of improvisation and meeting, which will cross theatre techniques to find unique movements and dances. The main goal is indeed the search for the creation of unique movements, typical of one’s physical possibilities and potential.

Sayouba Sigué
